Activist Proposal

The group I chose to represent is Green Life here at USI. The problem I am tackling is smoking on campus. My solution to this issue is to have designated "tent" like areas away from the doors of the buildings so non-smoking students and faculty do not have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter the building. My argument is the fact that there is a rule about having to be 30ft away from the building, but that rule is not re-enforced at all, especially when the weathers cold. My audience will be other USI students interested in the same type of issue, non-smokers, and students that wish to help me get this problem fixed.

I will create brochures, flyers, and brightly colored t-shirts to promote my cause and hopefully get followers. I will work my argument into the public sphere by selling t-shirts, and posting information on bullitan boards and websites. Hopefully I can get it to where smokers have there own designated area to smoke so I can easily avoid inhaling smoke that effects my health. Not to mention I have severe athsma!

Public Discourse

I have not participated in public discourse becuase i am the kind of person that likes to avoid arguing with people. If there was a particular topic that I felt strong enough for then I would for sure participate, but so far in my life I have been able to see either side of the arguments that have been brought up in my community so I haven't hung flyers or worn supportive buttons for anything yet.
