Activist Proposal

The group I chose to represent is Green Life here at USI. The problem I am tackling is smoking on campus. My solution to this issue is to have designated "tent" like areas away from the doors of the buildings so non-smoking students and faculty do not have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter the building. My argument is the fact that there is a rule about having to be 30ft away from the building, but that rule is not re-enforced at all, especially when the weathers cold. My audience will be other USI students interested in the same type of issue, non-smokers, and students that wish to help me get this problem fixed.

I will create brochures, flyers, and brightly colored t-shirts to promote my cause and hopefully get followers. I will work my argument into the public sphere by selling t-shirts, and posting information on bullitan boards and websites. Hopefully I can get it to where smokers have there own designated area to smoke so I can easily avoid inhaling smoke that effects my health. Not to mention I have severe athsma!

  1. i love the idea, and i agree with the tents for smokers to use. i hate walking into a building and having to basically hold my breath so i do inhale any of the smoke. the strong point of this proposal is the selling of t-shirts about her cause, which is a great idea. maybe a poster of some sort would be benefincal to your project, and maybe aready have friends where your t-shirts around to help promote your cause.

  3. Sorry for the slow response, T-shirts sound like a great idea, as well as using a poster to attract people. My main concern is to where the money that you gain from selling t-shirts is going to go. Other than that, I feel that your idea is solid.
